Two New Courses Offered at MPMD Conference
<The Rubber Division, ACS and ASM International are offering two new courses at the Materials and Processes for Medical Devices on pre-conference day, August 7. The MPMD Conference is to be held August 8-10 at the Hilton Minneapolis in Minneapolis, MN. Chemistry and Technology of Polymeric Materials Used in Medical Devices and Failure Analysis of Rubber and Plastics by Physical and Chemical Analysis will both be given August 7. Chemistry and Technology of Polymeric Materials Used in Medical Devices overviews FDA systems, terminology and guidance documents for classifications of devices, obtaining FDA approvals and preclinical testing, and is intended as an introductory course for materials, quality and engineering professionals. Failure Analysis of Rubber and Plastics by Physical and Chemical Analysis is a materials testing and analysis class covering a range of thermoset and thermoplastic elastomeric materials, as well as engineering plastic materials, and is designed for materials and quality technicians and junior level chemists. Rubber Consumption Increases
The International Rubber Study Group said global rubber consumption continued to increase in the first quarter. Measured on a moving annual total basis, global total rubber consumption was 24.8 million metric tons in March, which is a 9.9 percent growth, down from 15.3 percent in December 2010.
