Hutchinson Precision Sealing Systems' Level 3 Program

Continuous improvement is not just a buzz word at Hutchinson Precision Sealing Systems.  We are committed to “Continuous Improvement” through our Level 3 Program, a corporate-wide initiative that  draws on the best of three key manufacturing skill sets… Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and Total Productive Maintenance.

Like quality, every supplier talks about continuous improvement but very few deliver tangible, quantifiable results that impact the bottom line. At Hutchinson Precision Sealing Systems, continuous improvement is a way of life, a culture and tactical plan that is a relentless attack on waste and inefficiency. It is a big deal. We take it very seriously. For example, we

  • Look for at least 3% cost savings every year on every piece of business
  • Train 100% of our employees in lean manufacturing principles
  • Track days of inventory, Rolled Throughput Yield, Cost of goods sold and productivity for continuous improvement
  • We have at least 16 employees who are now Level 3 Masters, two black belts and nine green belts.

And the results speak for themselves:

  • The program has delivered $2.8 million in cost savings for NN from 2005 to 2009 and reduced inventories by 64%...and, we held these inventory gains while sales grew 18% in 2010.
